Supergirl
If you're a fan of the TV show "Supergirl," then you'd definitely notice that cosplayer Enji Night here is wearing a drastically different costume from the one Melissa Benoist is sporting. That's because she used the look Kara El-Zor, aka Supergirl, wore for "Superman: The Animated Series."
It's all good, though, as her creative choice gave the character a more playful vibe. She can almost fool you into thinking she isn't as strong as her cousin Superman! A fair warning: Kara truly is (DC Comics even suggested she's possibly stronger), and Enji's confident pose communicates that further!
Lara Croft
Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie did it first, but cosplayer Enji Night sure looks convincing as the video game-turned-movie character Lara Croft, aka the Tomb Raider, as well. And what's even more impressive is that Enji doesn't just stop at copying Lara's clothes.
Speaking to her one million followers on Instagram, she shared that she also trains to do epic stunt videos while in costume. Enji has also done various versions of Lara, including this one, based on the character's appearance in the "Tomb Raider: Legend" game.
Green Lantern
Green Lantern is one cool superhero, alright, but it also can't be denied that Jessica Cruz, a member of his Corps, is also one. So, it's no wonder cosplayers like Priscylla here have taken notice of the Justice League character and recreated her look.
Going by the name surfingthevoiid on the art website DeviantArt, she posted this photo in 2016. Priscylla definitely got many things right, too, from Jessica's long, dark locks to her striking light eyes to her red lip makeup look. And we bet her latex costume is custom-made as well with the way it fits her like a glove.
Black Widow
Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff, is already portrayed strikingly enough by Scarlett Johansson in the MCU films. But her cosplayer Katyuska Moonfox just had to up the ante with her own take on the fictional Russian spy! And if you're wondering why she looks different from versions we've seen on screen, there's a good reason why.
Katyuska used illustrator Yamashita Shunya's drawing of Black Widow as her inspiration, you see. That explains her cute-but-sultry vibe. The addition of the gold details, from what we've seen, is more faithful to Natasha's costume in the Marvel comic books, though.
Spider-Woman
It's high time we got a female version of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! And we think cosplayer and bodybuilding enthusiast Lakette Barraza is a great candidate for the post of Spider-Woman. With her strength and sculpted figure, we could totally see her swinging her way across New York City's skyscrapers.
Too bad she doesn't seem like a full-time cosplayer. Her Facebook and TikTok profiles show glimpses into her everyday life, which she spends working out and having fun with friends. On the bright side, this somewhat makes her cosplays all the more special when she finds the time to do them.
Valkyrie
Tessa Thompson did a fantastic job playing Asgardian Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. But we've also got to hand it to this cosplayer, who goes by the online name maweezy, for crafting this accurate depiction of the Dragonfang-wielding superhero!
And this is just one of her many elaborate movie costumes. Maweezy often treats her 32.5K followers on Instagram to a variety of cosplays, which include characters from the "Star Wars" and "Shrek" fandoms. Even more impressive, however, is that she's a real-life hero helping to save lives by working as a registered nurse.
Sailor Jupiter
If you grew up watching anime in the '90s, then we bet "Sailor Moon" still has a special place in your heart. So, get ready to be transported back to simpler times when you see cosplayer Gillian Owen in her Sailor Jupiter costume!
Renowned in her field, she's dressed up as dozens, if not hundreds, of characters and has posed for events like Toons On Tap since she began designing costumes in 2005. You can find more of the Toronto-based creative's amazing works on Tumblr or her Facebook page, both of which are under her Gilly Kins name.
Psylocke
Psylocke is definitely an interesting pick for a cosplayer. A character in the Marvel comic universe, her identity has been assumed by two people—Betsy Braddock and Kwannon—quite like how players often choose to portray the same superheroes.
Here is the psychic mutant as depicted by renowned cosplayer Linda Le, aka Vampy Bit Me. And with her background in hair styling, we're not surprised at all to see Linda fully committing to Psylocke's purple locks. You can check out more of her comic and anime-inspired creations on her VampyBitMe Instagram page.
Punisher
Cosplayers creating female versions of canonically male characters is nothing new. Still, we're pretty impressed by how well Hannah Rays' take on the Marvel anti-hero The Punisher (or simply Punisher) ended up looking. Too bad showrunners never got to incorporate a gender-bending aspect to the now-canceled "The Punisher" series!
With the addition of fishnet tights and a black wig, she retained Frank Castle's air of mystery while also adding a sultry touch to the look. That said, it's no surprise that Hannah has also transitioned into creating content and outfits for the subscription service OnlyFans in addition to her cosplaying gig.
Jessica Rabbit
Although a cartoon character, Jessica Rabbit won over many fans when she appeared in the 1988 film "Who Censored Roger Rabbit." Voluptuous as she is beautiful, it takes an equally curvy person to pull off cosplaying her. Fashion designer and seamstress Milena Dereka definitely fit the bill.
And just like the other women we've seen, she's not afraid to go all out for her costumes. She even got the help of photographer Tim Frost to take these gorgeous photographs of her in her figure-hugging red gown and matching flaming locks. You can find more of her cosplays on her Instagram profile, @milenahime.
Hellgirl
While we're pretty sure the Hellgirl character isn't canon in the "Hellboy" comics, this female version of the well-meaning half-demon superhero captured the imagination of many fans. That includes cosplayer Tanuki Tinka Asai, who breathed Hellgirl into life with this wickedly good costume.
As with her other cosplays, Tanuki put her own spin to it, of course, going for a more sultry look over Hellboy's brawny appearance. There's plenty more where this came from, and all you have to do is visit her Instagram page, @tanuki_tinka_asai, to look for your next Halloween costume inspo!
Domino
Although technically a mutant and a part of the "X-Men" saga, Domino is best known for her appearance in the MCU film "Deadpool 2," where she was portrayed by the actress Zazie Beetz. And that's exactly where cosplayer Jasmine, aka Unique Sora, got her cosplay inspiration from.
A veteran in the game, Jasmine got Domino's movie look to a T from her bold afro hairstyle to her famous left eye birthmark. With her intense stare in this picture, you'd be led to believe she found a way to acquire Domino's telekinetic abilities too!
Wonder Woman
If we didn't know any better, we would have thought this was actually Gal Gadot posing in her movie costume for "Wonder Woman 1984" promos. In reality, though, this lovely lady is Rocío Madariaga, a cosplayer based in Santiago, Chile. She considers the Amazonian deity as one of her favorite cosplays, and it shows.
It's evident from her armor that Rocío, who told ETC that she learned to sew as a teen, put a lot of work into her outfit. She didn't stop at just one character, though. In her Buy Me A Coffee profile, she shared that she also wants to breathe life into the DC heroine Mera.
Storm
As one of the "X-Men" saga's most important characters, the mutant Storm has had a variety of looks from her different storylines. For example, this unnamed cosplayer we spotted at the Emerald City Comic Con 2015 is sporting Storm's silver, white, and gold outfit from the "X-Men" comics of the early '90s.
The regal vibe this look exudes is intentional, we bet. See, Storm is originally a Kenyan princess and served as the leader of the X-Men team in the comics. Too bad we never got to see Halle Berry in this costume in the movie adaptations!
Raven
Meet cosplayer Oh My Sophii and what sets her apart from the rest, you might ask. Well, she has the uncanny ability to turn even the simplest cartoon characters into babes. Just look at her revealing Raven—yes, that Raven from "Teen Titans"—costume, for example.
What's more, she knows how to commit to a character fully and even painted her face with gray makeup for this shoot. And if you're familiar with Raven, the human-demon hybrid's personality, Sophii also got her stoic expression down pat. Now, all she needs is someone to dress up as Beast Boy for a couple cosplay!
Kitana
It's no secret that cosplaying is a hobby that costs a lot of dough. This elaborate Kitana costume we found on the online shopping platform Etsy proves that further. For about $121, you can dress up as the "Mortal Kombat II" fighter and yell "Finish him!" with abandon.
From the reviews we've seen, this outfit is worth every penny, too. Hand-made from materials like artificial leather and PVC by Evgeniya Rukavitsina, cosplayers like Rosa Hernandez have rocked the costume and looked every bit ready to use their steel fans against the likes of Johnny Cage and Kung Lao.
Captain America
As the embodiment of American patriotism in the early '40s, Captain America and his star-spangled suit have also become a popular inspiration for Halloween costume makers. Some of them even put their own twist on their designs, as you can see from this female version of the originally masculine outfit.
Instead of a full-body costume, this one is shortened into a romper-silhouette, perhaps for that sultry vibe adult trick or treaters like these days. You might even say that this is more like a cheerleader uniform than something a World War II veteran-turned-superhero would wear.
Sakura
The ninja Sakura Haruno is among the most popular manga-turned-anime "Naruto" characters, so it's only fitting that cosplayers pay tribute to her. Diana Rodriguez, aka Dids Rainfall, is one of the many creative ladies who have donned a pink wig and a red outfit to do her justice.
Dids' take on Sakura has a modern twist, though with the addition of white pants. Perhaps this refers to the character's look from the film "The Last: Naruto The Movie," which saw Sakura in more casual outfits outside of her trademark ninja uniform.
Pink Ranger
Many girls dreamed of having their own pink fighting suit after seeing Kimberly Hart, aka the Pink Ranger, wearing one in the '90s show "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." Only a few got to live out that dream, however. One of them is Las Vegas-based makeup artist Angela Domanico.
She gained attention, appearing as the Pink Ranger in the YouTube short film "Power Rangers Vs. Voltron" around the time the "Power Rangers" movie was released in 2017. Speaking with Pop Culture Online, she shared that her spandex suit was custom-made by Super Geek Designs and Zentai Zone.
Black Cat
Batman has Catwoman and Spider-Man. He also has a feline ally in the form of Black Cat. And just like her DC Comics equivalent, the Marvel character is often portrayed in an all-black latex suit. That said, prolific cosplayer Cutie Pie Sensei definitely nailed it with this one.
Sharing her process in a 2019 Instagram post, she said she made her mask herself while the outfit is from the popular cosplay resource MicCostumes. Typically though, she makes 90% of her looks. You can check out her excellent Nubia build posted on her @cutiepiesensei and see her skills in action for yourself.
Harley Quinn
Thanks to the success of the "Suicide Squad" film franchise and, of course, Margot Robbie's epic portrayal, Harley Quinn is as popular among DC fans as ever. That said, you've probably noticed how it's her red and blue look that's being cosplayed. Well, Karishma Cosplay decided to go down the road less traveled.
Proving that she really knows her stuff, she went for Harley's black and red outfit from the DC comics and the show "Batman: The Animated Series." Karishma truly went all out, even finding a unique pair of heeled jester shoes to match her overall vintage clown aesthetic.
Widowmaker
Another cosplayer who knows her way around styling is Jannet, who offers her wig styling and making services to fellow players. It seems like she's a pretty good businesswoman, too, because her outfits, including this insanely accurate Widowmaker, are great advertisements for her Incosplay brand.
For the unfamiliar, Widowmaker is a character from the popular video game "Overwatch." Her name's pretty fitting as well, given her ability to do everything from setting up poison traps to finding out an enemy's location. Of course, it can't be denied that Widowmaker is easy on the eyes, too, with her figure-hugging purple armor.
Pikachu
Now, this next character needs no introductions. One of the "Pokémon" anime and game franchise's most beloved figures, Pikachu, has stolen the hearts of fans across the world. And that includes cosplayer Jessica Nigri, who wowed fans at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con by wearing this unique Pikachu costume.
An anthropomorphic take on the cute, mouse-like Pokémon, she chose a two-piece matching set and accessorized it with black accents to capture Pikachu's general design. The attention she got from this look is believed to have helped in making the term cosplay a mainstream one, according to the website Heavy Metal.
D.Va
D.Va is one of the cuter characters to come out of "Overwatch," so cosplaying her was definitely right up Alodia Gosiengfiao's alley! Known for her portrayal of adorable video game and anime characters, she's built a stellar reputation in the Asian cosplay community with her sister Ashley.
Alodia, based in the Philippines, debuted this elaborate D.Va costume in 2017 and even wore it to various comic convention events across the world. You can catch glimpses of that adventure on her YouTube channel, where she also posts gaming and technology videos as well as lifestyle vlogs.
Eve
Eve, a Nasod queen under the Code: Empress class, is a character from the Clamp-designed anime "Code Geass." That said, she has all the ethereal outfits of a Clamp girl like the famous Cardcaptor Sakura. And while that quality may be challenging to translate into real-life clothing, we think cosplayer Amie Lynn did a fantastic job here!
Being a fan of "Code Geass" herself, Amie got her start at cosplaying when she dressed up as the witch C.C. for an anime expo. Since then, she's been hooked on bringing various characters to life. We heard Amie's a Twitch streamer too and dresses up in simpler costumes.
Tron
The film "Tron" may not be as well-received as Disney's other franchises, but it still has its fair share of fans. Among them is cosplayer Ani-Mia, who even bought a latex suit to portray the titular character, Tron. Here she is trying on her outfit before putting on her matching blue-themed makeup to complete the look.
Aside from dressing up as movie and video game characters, Ani-Mia gets her creative juices flowing through writing. She's the woman behind the book "Bettie Page And The Bigfoot Bandits," which is her first stab at writing a comic.
Lili
Emilie "Lili" de Rochefort is a teenage player in the "Tekken" video game series. Portrayed as the daughter of a wealthy tycoon, her character design includes a lot of white frills and blonde locks. That said, we think cosplayer Aza Miyuko here nailed the look.
And although you can't see it from this snapshot, Aza learned some of Lili's signature fighting moves and gymnastic poses, too, for her photoshoot. With that level of dedication to her craft, it's no shock that the South Korea-based cosplayer is immensely popular on Facebook and web portal Naver.
Sakuya Izayoi
If you're looking for a cosplayer who combines lolita and sultry styles together, Ely is someone you need to check out. Just look at her adorable take on Sakuya Izayoi, a playable character in the "Touhou" shooting video game series.
From her frilly maid costume to her sword prop, Ely really went all out for this one. And to think she created an even more extravagant version of this costume for the same photoshoot! You can check out her entire shoots on her Ely Cosplay website, which doubles as a shopping portal for her photosets.
Mercy
Suppose you're familiar with the support hero Mercy from the "Overwatch" video games. In that case, you probably expect to see a cosplay of her that includes her angelic wings and Valkyrie Suit. Lyz Brickley went the simple route and opted for a figure-hugging ensemble.
That doesn't mean that Lyz, who also owns a fashion brand called System Error, never goes for more elaborate costumes though. In fact, she's done impressive looks for characters like Gamora from "Guardians Of The Galaxy," Nova from "Heroes Of The Storm," and more! Even better, Lyz often includes her daughter in her cosplays and comes up with matching looks.
Dizzy
Misa Chiang's ability to transform herself totally into any character might just be a superpower. Here she is demonstrating just that as the innocent half-Gear Dizzy from the fighting game series "Guilty Gear." No wonder she's so popular beyond her home country, Taiwan!
She's been invited as a guest to many conventions across Asia, like the Game & Anime Expo in Malaysia and The Best of Anime 2019 event in the Philippines. This fame also made her a successful YouTuber with over 900K subscribers. Misa posts a mix of cosplay, lifestyle, and adult content on her channel.
Neneko
Now, here's something different from the ones we've seen so far. Created by the Taiwan-based cosplayer Neneko, this adorable black cat costume is based on an original character she conceptualized. She didn't share much about her creative process, but this is definitely on-brand for her, considering the kind of cute but seductive cosplays she does.
Known for her "kawaii" style even when wearing her regular clothes, Neneko has also gotten recognition for her work in the Vocaloid space. According to Asian Beat, she got to represent Taiwan in a prestigious Vocaloid cosplay tournament.
K/DA D.Va
Here we have another D. Va from "Overwatch" costume. This time though, it's from cosplayer Rinnie Riot, who gave the video game character's look a twist. Taking inspiration from the virtual K-pop girl group K/DA, she came up with this ultra-feminine ensemble.
Looking at K/DA's character designs, it seems like Rinnie was inspired the most by the member Ahri, who also dons cute cat ears. She's also done straightforward Ahri cosplays on her Instagram, @rinnieriotcosplay, including a Spirit Blossom version, which features the addition of nine furry tails to her costume.
Ivy Valentine
Fantasy video game characters are a challenge to cosplay because of their often elaborate costumes and weapons. However, Stella Chuu wasn't afraid to step up to the plate when she picked Ivy Valentine from the "Soulcalibur" game franchise. And that's because she had talented people to help her.
Stella credited the costume designer Juanita Cardenas in a Facebook post for making her Ivy ensemble. However, she made the props herself, including Ivy's trusty Snake Sword. Among Stella's other impressive creations are her K/DA Ahri nine-tailed costume and her light-up Gundam outfit.
Chun Li
Yaya Han has become somewhat of a cosplay celebrity in the United States. Aside from comic conventions, she's also been featured in TV shows like "Heroes Of Cosplay" on the Syfy channel and the reality competition "King Of The Nerds."
Among Yaya's most well-known cosplays is her take on the "Street Fighter" character Chun Li, who she has portrayed several times over the years. The one pictured above is her Art Nouveau version of Chun Li and was inspired by the work of artist Razvan-Sedekiah. Yaya crafted the outfit herself out of silk fabrics.
Tyrael
Traditionally a male character, the mortal angel character Tyrael from the video game franchise "Diablo" got the gender-bender treatment thanks to Apotheosis Cosplay. And what's even more impressive is that she made the entire armor herself, even casting a sword in her workshop to complete the look.
The star of the outfit, which she proudly wore to the BlizzCon gaming convention, is the angel wings though. She was inspired by a pair a Victoria's Secret model wore on the runway, judging from the photo set she posted on her Apotheosis Cosplay Facebook page.
Rem
Chihiro Chang is one of the most versatile cosplayers we've seen so far. She's made a long list of characters to life, from sultry anime characters to tough video game ones. We even saw her in a "Squid Game" costume for Halloween!
That said, it's no surprise that the Taiwan-based creative can also pull off the lolita look. She did so here, dressed up as the cute antagonistic character Rem from the Japanese light novel series "Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World." Chihiro did a more revealing version of this as well, ditching the frills for a short bib-like outfit.
M. Bison
We never really imagined what M. Bison, aka the Dictator in the "Street Fighter" games, would look like as a woman. But then again, we don't have cosplayer Maria Ramos' imagination. Adding some cleavage to M. Bison's red military uniform, she proved that sultry could be intimidating too.
Of course, Ramos, who also goes by Mariedoll online, also went all out when it comes to post-processing her photos to make her look more convincing as the villainous character. We heard Mariedoll also makes her own cosplay costumes and shows her creative process on Patreon.
Cammy
Now that we're on the topic of the "Street Fighter" universe let's move on and admire this Cammy cosplay from Ms. Rae. From her extra-long braided pigtails to the character's trademark green leotard, it's safe to say that Ms. Rae did her research!
Along with her Supergirl and Zatanna cosplays, she's worn this ensemble out to events, including the annual CEG Cosplay Cruise. Ms. Rae, who also goes by the name Kelsea, is based in New York City and has professed her love for stretch vinyl material, which you'll definitely see featured in most of her works.
Wonder Woman
Here we have another excellent Wonder Woman costume. This time it's from Lindsay Elyse, a gamer and cosplayer from Arizona, who's giving us a cheeky take on the Amazonian deity. Taken in 2014, she wore this armor ensemble during the New York Comic-Con.
This is only one of the many characters she's paid tribute to since she began cosplaying in 2005. A quick browse of her @gglindsayelyse Instagram profile shows that she's also done Jennifer from the film "Jennifer's Body," Harley Quinn, and Princess Leia. Lindsay also sells digital sets of her cosplays on her website.
Lina
As fiery as her red locks, Lina from the online video game "Dota 2" is known for her powerful spells and solar flame. Her character design reflects these capabilities perfectly, what with her armor of red and orange. So, cosplayer Starkova Tasya definitely had a lot of material to create this costume.
All that's missing is Lina's literal flaming hands and hair. Maybe Tasya, who we heard is also a skilled visual artist, can add those in while post-processing her cosplay photos. You can check out her other works, including her other "Dota 2" costumes, on her Instagram @st_starkova.
